The Center for the Healing of Racism in partnership with Dominican Sisters of Houston Celebrate Black History Month with a film screening and workshop:
THE COST OF INHERITANCE: Understanding the racial wealth gap, healing the path forward
Please join us for an afternoon with Lotte Lieb Dula and Briayna Cuffie, creators of reparations4slavery.com, and featured in the new PBS documentary, The Cost of Inheritance, as we explore the movement for reparations.
We’ll look at the genesis of white wealth in parallel with the historical harms that resulted from the enslavement of African Americans, creating the current 10-1 racial wealth gap. Using Lotte’s and Briayna’s ancestral narratives as the backdrop for our conversation, we’ll also look at retooling harmful family and community perspectives that uphold the culture of white supremacy.
Includes film screening/presentation, moderated panel discussion, Q&A session, exploratory scribing exercises, breakout group discussion and access to free reparations education program that supports next steps.
With poetic storytelling offerings by Norma Johnson, healer, inspirationalist, poetic storyteller and racial justice catalyst.
Water and snacks provided.
Free and open to the public with donations encouraged. To donate click here.
